Behind every animal is a farmer who works seven days a week to make sure the
cattle are healthy, comfortable, well fed, and cared for. Morning, night, weekends,
holidays, good weather or bad - the animals still need to be checked, fed, watered,
bedded, and watched over.
This is more than raising beef. It is a lifetime of farming. Our farmer brings 60 years
of hands-on experience to the land and the cattle. That experience comes from
decades of watching the weather, caring for animals, planting crops, repairing
equipment, putting up hay, harvesting corn, maintaining fences, and knowing when
something needs attention before it becomes a problem.
Our cattle are born and raised on the farm. They grow up on large grassy Wisconsin
pastures with room to move, graze, and rest. Mature oak trees provide natural shade
through the warm summer months. The farmer sees these cattle every day and
knows their habits, their condition, and how they are doing.
Much of the feed they eat is raised right here. The hay is grown on the farm. The
corn is grown on the farm. The fields are checked throughout the growing season.
Rocks are picked by hand. Weeds are pulled when needed. Crops are watched
closely from planting through harvest because good feed starts with healthy soil and
careful field work.
Behind every bale of hay and every load of corn are hours of tractor work, fuel,
machinery maintenance, repairs, planting, mowing, baling, harvesting, hauling, and
storage. There are also the daily chores that never stop - feeding, bedding, fencing,
checking water, caring for pastures, and keeping the operation running safely.
Farming asks for patience, sacrifice, and persistence. There are early mornings, long
nights, broken equipment, changing weather, difficult seasons, and plenty of hard
physical work. There has been blood, sweat, tears, pride, and a tremendous amount
of care invested in raising this beef.
When you purchase a whole beef from Yager Family Farm, you are buying more
than food for your freezer. You are supporting a Wisconsin family farm, local
agriculture, and a way of life built over generations. You can know where your beef
was raised, what the cattle were fed, and the farmer who cared for them.
That is what locally raised beef means to us: responsibility for the land, responsibility for the animals, and quality food for local families.
