RULES
For many decades, our stables and its staff have worked to develop and enable you to have extraordinary moments with horses. We firmly believe that interacting with horses, spending time in our Stables, and learning to ride allows you and your child to instill a sense of personal responsibility and integrity, build self-esteem and confidence, develop a strong work ethic, build resilience and empathy, and have fun!
To ensure everyone can enjoy our Stables and Riding Academy, we ask that you thoroughly read, understand, and agree to the Stable Rules. In many ways, these Rules are intended to ensure safety for the Stables, yourself, other riders, and the horses.
If you have questions or concerns, contact Neva La Fleur at neva@lstables.com, (608) 833-3635, or in person. If these Rules are not followed or adhered to, you are asked to bring them promptly to Neva’s attention.
Any person not adhering to the above rules will be promptly addressed. Depending upon the seriousness of the circumstance, any of the following consequences may be applied, not necessarily in stated order:
POLICIES
For many decades, our stables and its staff have worked to develop and enable you to have extraordinary moments with horses. We firmly believe that interacting with horses, spending time in our Stables, and learning to ride allows you and your child to instill a sense of personal responsibility and integrity, build self-esteem and confidence, develop a strong work ethic, build resilience and empathy, and have fun!
Please read the following Policies to ensure everyone can enjoy our Stables and Riding Academy. These policies are essential and expected to be followed consistently to provide positive, extraordinary experiences for you, the horses, other riders, and the Stables.
With any set of rules, expectations, and policies, communication between you and the Stable is the key to maintaining a good relationship. If you have questions or concerns, contact Neva La Fleur at neva@lstables.com, (608) 833-3635, or in person.
You must understand these policies, raise questions or concerns, and follow them consistently.
STABLE HOURS:
The Stable is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is generally closed on Sundays and at other times, as the Stable Calendar notes.
There will be times that the Stable may be open, but no Staff member will be present. If anyone arrives at the Stable with no current staff member, you are asked to email neva@Lstables.com before you are in the Stable.
COMMUNICATIONS:
The Stable desires a welcoming and safe environment for our riders and visitors. If you have a question or concern, you are expected to bring it to the attention of the owners and Neva rather than take it to another boarder, client, or rider.
Stable can address all horse and rider-related non-emergency issues, questions, or concerns at the barn or by phone during Stable Hours or when Stable management has returned from a Horse Show. Please respect days off and barn closures to allow our staff a break from the job demands.
The best communication methods are talking on the phone, emailing, and texting. Messages sent via social media will not be responded to.
Phone: (608) 833-3635
Email: neva@lstables.com
Owners are encouraged to notify Stable of any address changes, emergency telephone numbers, itineraries, or other information reasonably necessary to contact the Owner in an emergency. In the event the Owner departs on vacation or is otherwise unavailable, before departure, the Owner can inform Stable as to what party is authorized to make decisions in the Owner’s place about the health, well-being, and medical treatment of the horse(s).
INCLEMENT WEATHER:
The Stable follows the City of Madison protocols. If the City of Madison declares a snow emergency, Stable will cancel all previously scheduled lessons, riding appointments, and programs (e.g., camps and parties). Individuals who sign up for any scheduled lesson or program may receive a text message from Neva regarding such closure by Noon that day.
LESSON/RIDING APPOINTMENTS AND CANCELLATIONS:
To ensure proper staffing and horse readiness and avoid other scheduling conflicts, all riders must sign up for Show Riding or Lesson times at least one week in advance. The Lesson Book in the Stable Store can be used to sign up for a show horse ride or academy lesson. If you need help signing up for the Lesson Book, email neva@Lstables.com. Changes to ride/lesson email appointments within 48 hours of the original sign-up time should be communicated verbally to Neva, and the Lesson Book should be modified to ensure the changes are received and acknowledged. The Stables require 24-hour notice to cancel any riding program. Please give 24-hour notice information to avoid forfeiture of the program time and fee. No refund or credit will be given for failure to cancel or complete a lesson session. If a rider arrives late for a program, lesson, or Show Ride appointment, the Rider will receive a shortened time but will still be responsible for its total cost.
COVID CONSIDERATIONS:
Please give 24-hour notice information to avoid forfeiture of the program time and fee. No refund or credit will be given for failure to cancel or complete a lesson session.
RIDING OUTSIDE OF LESSON/SHOW HORSE APPOINTMENT TIMES:
To avoid conflict with other riding appointments or programs, owners must contact Neva to discuss riding times outside designated lessons and Show Horse Ride times. Owners who want to ride their horses when staff are absent, such as on Sundays, may do so if Stable is informed in advance and approves. Another capable person must always be present in the riding area for safety.
FEES:
All fees are listed on the Lesson Rate Sheet. Payments are due at the beginning of the lessons. To avoid additional charges, we prefer Cash or Checks. Credit Cards accepted: MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and 3% added for credit card purchases. If a coupon expires, ITS expires. It must have been used at the time you bought it.
ATTIRE:
Riders are expected to wear appropriate clothing for the riding program that they are in. This includes long pants; jodhpurs are recommended; paddock boots with a heel; shirts that are not revealing; and sports bras if necessary. Hair pulled back neatly to fit under a helmet.
Approved helmets with chin harnesses must be worn for riders under 17 while mounted. Stables Rents helmets. Inquire within.
ADVERTISEMENTS AND PHOTOGRAPHY:
All ads will be organized through stable management, and all photos will be approved by sound management.
Our stables may use any photographs of horses and riders riding, competing, training, etc., under the stables banner for use in our publications, news releases, advertisements, marketing, or any other form of communication-related communication related to the purpose of the business. This is not limited to show ring photographs, lessons, horse care, social events, etc.
If a Stable advertisement is placed, the following will be included:
1. Caretaker
2. Breeding/Breeder
3. Standard Stables logo and line
SOCIAL MEDIA:
We encourage you to share your enjoyment of our Stables and the world of horses. Please be aware that whenever you post something, you represent our Stables, your family, your sport, and your community. Social Media interactions should be positive and purposeful, promoting the breed, sport, stables, horse shows, and equine community.
We ask that all Owners, Academy Riders, Guests, and family members of customers be responsible for their online profiles and accounts, including but not limited to posts, tweets, pictures, snap chats, videos, TicTok, or any other recordings. Inappropriate content, expressed or implied, or adverse comments about other barns, horses, riders, and owners are prohibited.
If you experience any negativity directed towards yourself, the Stables, or any person connected with our Stables, we ask that you notify Neva immediately.
PERSONAL HOUSE:
The La Fleur family is the only tenant on the property. Since this is La Fleur’s home and business, we kindly ask that you do not "visit" the house on the property unless in a dire emergency or granted permission.
USE OF CELL PHONES:
Cell phone use in the barn can be distracting and fail to recognize or respond to an unsafe hazard near or towards people and horses. Please refrain from bringing cell phones into the barn if possible. Cell phones should not be present in the riding arena at any time except to take short videos or pictures by a non-rider. All riders and horse handlers must ensure no cell phone is on their person while handling or riding any horse.
PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIES FOR MINORS UNDER 17:
Parents and guardians are integral to a child’s ability to demonstrate attention, resilience, patience, and retention of essential experiences learned while in the barn, handling horses, and learning to ride. Parents and guardians can offer positive perspectives and encouragement when a young rider experiences inevitable frustrations and unmet expectations. Therefore, parents or guardians of any person under 17 are strongly encouraged to be present. At the same time, their child is engaged in handling or riding any horse, especially during lesson appointments. Persons under 17 may only ride unsupervised by parent/guardian with the Trainer's and parent's express permission.
Children under 17 will be supervised at the barn if PRIOR arrangements and agreement with the Stable have been made. This includes lessons or barn time.
In addition, all communication via text or email from or to a child under 17 must include the Parent/Guardian, child, and trainer/instructor. This is to protect minors and adults and avoid miscommunication.

PROPER HORSE CARE:
The Stable prides itself on the level and quality of our horse care. Every horse is unique, and getting to know each horse’s needs, desires, and “quirks” is essential. However, there are some general guidelines for handling every horse that we would like you to follow:
GENERAL STABLES EXPECTATIONS:
With attention to the following guidelines, we can assure all horses and people are safe as well as a smooth-running barn:

The Stable desires a welcoming and safe environment for our riders and visitors. To ensure a positive barn culture where every person is treated with respect and experiences the extraordinary moments we strive for, the following behaviors are expected while in and around the barn:

INJURIES:
If a rider gets hurt while grooming, tacking, handling, or riding a horse, there is a first aid kit in the laundry room. If the rider needs more help, the family/guardian will be notified. In the event of an emergency and dialing 911, please remember to tell emergency services to have the emergency vehicle drive behind the house.
TIPPING:
Tipping is customary for anyone who personally boards, shows, or leases a horse. The tipping recommendations are:
INSURANCE:
While the farm carries insurance, it will NOT cover damage or theft of saddle and equipment that the Stables do not own. Therefore, if anyone leaves tack and equipment at the Stable regularly, it is recommended that the homeowner’s policies be reviewed to ensure coverage.
In addition, we encourage you to consider your insurance needs in owning, riding, breeding, and boarding horses. Several insurance policies can address your individual needs, such as:
I have carefully read the rules and agree to obey them. We appreciate your time and business.
