Winter Riding Attire

Stables are Heated

1. Safety First— Ensure all clothing is secure; NO loose scarves; jackets must be zipped.

2. Get Technical— Apparel should be made of wool or technical/synthetic materials. These fabrics are all “moisture wicking” and draw moisture away from your skin as you sweat to help you warm and dry.

3. Layering — Top-heavy layering apparel is critical, especially if you are going to be outdoors for an hour or more. Generally, start with a tighter fitting base layer followed by a warmer insulating layer and then a water and wind-repellant outer layer or jacket. Moisture-wicking pieces in different weights and thicknesses can make winter running comfortable and fun. Undergarments: wicking underwear - sports bra - wind briefs for men - plus wicking undershirt Baselayer: long sleeve. Upper Body: Vest

4. Layering — Bottoms UP

There are many different weights of moisture-wicking jods. Make your choice based on your cold tolerance.

5. Head, Fingers, Hands & Toes — The extremities are the body's most vulnerable areas. Be sure to cover your head! Over 20% of the body’s heat escapes through the head. Your options include headbands & hats. You can also significantly increase comfort and warmth with the right Riding gloves and wool socks. Head * Neck * Face - Headband or wicking hat or fleece hat

6. The Right Shoes Can Make the Riding Experience — Enjoyable For riding, sturdy shoes that go past the ankles and have a heel are the best fit. Feet: Wicking Socks

7. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate — It may be cold, but your body still needs to be hydrated. Remember to drink before you are thirsty, even in the winter.

Using the appropriate equipment shows respect for the sport and pride in your appearance.  We expect all riders to come prepared with the correct attire every time they ride. The links on this page will help you to order the right dress.
